Travel tech accessories 2026: the carry-on kit for the new power bank rules
Airlines rewrote the rules this year. Here is the kit that makes every watt-hour count, and fits in one pouch.
Quick answer: what tech should you pack in 2026?
- A TSA lock with Apple Find My, so the lock is also the luggage tracker.
- Two power banks, no more. One under 100 Wh for the laptop, one slim magnetic one for the phone.
- One 65 W dual USB-C charger instead of a laptop brick and a phone plug.
- One cable that also charges your watch, plus a spare on your keys.
- Wired USB-C earphones. Nothing to pair, nothing to charge.
Security
Lock it. Find it.

X-Lock Pro
Security can open and relock it without cutting. You see your suitcase in the Find My app, with no extra app and no subscription.
Why this oneA hidden tracker can be removed and a plain lock cannot be found. This does both, and never needs a coin battery.
What changed
The new power bank rules on planes
On 27 March 2026 the UN aviation body ICAO tightened its global guidance: two power banks per passenger, 100 Wh each, cabin only, no recharging on board.
Some airlines go further. The Lufthansa Group has banned using power banks on board since 15 January 2026. Emirates allows one only. Rules are due to tighten again on 1 January 2027.
What it means for packing: you get two slots. Fill them well, charge before you board, and check your airline's page before you fly.
Power
Your two slots, used properly

X-Power Max
The most power you can carry on without asking an airline. Takes a 16-inch MacBook Pro to around 60 percent in about an hour.
Why this oneMost "airline safe" banks stop at 20 000 mAh and 65 W. This one sits at the legal ceiling.

Qi2 Ultrathin 5K
Snaps to the back of an iPhone 12 or later and charges with no cable. About one full iPhone charge in a brushed aluminium slab.
Why this oneIt rides on the phone, so it stays on you, exactly where the strictest airlines want a power bank.
Charging
One plug. One cable. One spare.

65 W Dual Charger
65 W for a MacBook, or two ports live for phone and tablet. Works worldwide with a simple plug adapter outside Europe.
Why this oneHotel rooms give you one free socket. This turns it into two fast ports.

X-Cable Watch
The watch rests on the magnetic puck while the USB-C end charges the phone or a MacBook. Apple Watch and Galaxy Watch.
Why this oneThe watch charger is the most forgotten item in travel. Here it is the cable.

X Key Chain NEW
A braided cable on a carabiner. Clip it to your keys or bag, or wear it as a phone wrist lanyard through the airport.
Why this oneCable, keyring and phone lanyard. Three things you would otherwise pack separately.
In the seat
Watch. Type. Listen.

X Spinner Stand NEW
A fold-out stand for the tray table. Folded, it is a fidget spinner for the long wait at the gate.

Foldable Keyboard
Turns an iPad or even an iPhone into a place to work. Mac layout out of the box, charges over USB-C.
Why this oneLeave the laptop at home on short trips, and free your big power bank slot.

X-Wire Sound NEW
Plug into an iPhone 15 or later, an iPad or a MacBook and they play. Nothing to pair, nothing to charge.
Why this oneWireless earbuds die around hour six of a long-haul flight. These are the cheapest insurance in your bag.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Can I take a power bank on a plane in 2026?
Yes, in your carry-on bag only, never in checked luggage. Since 27 March 2026 the global baseline is a maximum of two power banks per passenger, each up to 100 Wh without airline approval, and you may not recharge them from the aircraft's sockets. Some airlines are stricter, so check with the airline operating your flight.
Is a 27 000 mAh power bank allowed on a plane?
Yes. A 27 000 mAh power bank at 3.7 V is 99.9 Wh, which is under the 100 Wh limit for carry-on without approval. It is the largest common size you can fly with.
How do I convert mAh to Wh?
Multiply the capacity in mAh by the battery voltage (usually 3.7 V) and divide by 1 000. Example: 5 000 mAh × 3.7 ÷ 1 000 = 18.5 Wh. The Wh figure printed on the power bank is the one airline staff will look for.
Can I use my power bank during the flight?
It depends on the airline. Several carriers, including the Lufthansa Group, no longer allow power banks to be used or charged on board. Charge your devices before boarding and keep the power bank under the seat or on you, not in the overhead locker.
What is the best way to track luggage with an iPhone?
Use a tracker on Apple's Find My network. The X-Lock Pro combines a Find My tracker with a TSA-approved lock, so the tracker sits on the outside of the bag as its lock, recharges over USB-C and shows up in the Find My app next to your other devices.
Will a TSA lock with a tracker be cut off by security?
No. TSA-approved locks can be opened by security officers with a master key and locked again after inspection, so the lock and your suitcase stay intact.
What charger should I take for a MacBook, iPhone and iPad?
One dual-port USB-C charger of 65 W covers all three. It delivers 65 W to a MacBook on its own or splits 30 W plus 30 W across two devices, and it accepts 100 to 240 V so it works in any country with the right plug adapter.
Do wired USB-C earphones work with an iPhone?
Yes, with iPhone 15 and later, which have a USB-C port, and with any USB-C iPad or MacBook. They need no pairing and have no battery, which makes them a reliable backup on long flights.
Airline rules change quickly and vary by carrier. This guide reflects the rules published as of October 2026. Always confirm with your airline before you fly. Apple, iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Apple Watch and Find My are trademarks of Apple Inc.
