Frequently Asked Questions — HDMI to VGA Adapter
When would I use HDMI to VGA instead of HDMI to HDMI?
When your laptop or media player outputs HDMI but the display only has VGA — typically older office projectors, hotel meeting-room screens, university lecture halls, and some legacy monitors.
What resolution does it support?
Up to 1920×1080 at 60Hz (Full HD). VGA itself does not carry HD audio, so audio must be routed separately if needed (the adapter has a 3.5mm audio jack for that).
Is it active or passive?
Active — contains an HDMI-to-VGA conversion chip, which is required because the two signals are electrically incompatible. Powered via the HDMI source itself, no external power needed.
Does it work with Mac and PC?
Yes, plug-and-play on macOS, Windows, ChromeOS, and Linux. No drivers.
Will it carry HDCP-protected content like Netflix?
VGA is an unencrypted analog signal and does not support HDCP. Streaming services that require HDCP (Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV+) will refuse to play. For protected content, use an HDMI-to-HDMI cable.
